Friday’s Five

1. My mint plant is a mutant.

Seriously, the thing has doubled in size in the past six days. I am going to have so much effing mint. #healthylivingscore

2. Eating clean like whoa this week.

If only I could keep it up on the weekends…..

3. I finally tried a new yoga DVD.

I’m sorry, Sarah Ivanhoe. I still love you, but I just needed a break. It was great – my abs were super sore from this sooo I will probably be doing this DVD again next week.

yoga34. Scrambling to prep for a 10K next weekend.

Remember when I signed up for THIS? Well, time kind of got away from me. I think this is going to primarily a fun run for me since I’m not in tip-tip running shape right now.

5. TSwift in concert.

I can’t wait to scream my head off with all the twelve-year-old girls in the city this weekend. Thanks again for the tix, Dad!

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Friday’s Five

1. My new juicer.

Omg. So excited about this. Juicing is one of the ways Hungry For Change recommends re. healthy nutrient consumption.  My mom gave me an old juicer from her BF and I can’t wait to experiment with it. This should be interesting.

juicer12. I went to the gym three times in a row.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. This never happens. I am proud of myself.

123montueswed3. Attending a Capital’s playoff game.

Tuna is the best and bought us tickets to Game 1. We WON!

caps4. GOT this week.

I LOVE this story line. More. Please.

5. The first stage of growing out my bangs.

Eventually I will have side bangs and they will be cute. That’s what I keep telling myself.

What are TWO fun things you did this week?

Friday’s Five

1. The awesome cover of the May edition of Boston Magazine.

2. Cucumber Mint Water from a mason jar.

My aunts/cousin inspired me because they were drinking this a few weeks ago, and I thought – hey, I can make that too! I drink so much water now that it’s fun to mix it up a little.

cucumbermintwater3. The Vampire 5K was cancelled.

Originally I was quite pissy about this, but now I am so glad I don’t have to go run around in the woods tonight. My allergies are making me miz, so I’m ecstatic that I get to curl up with some Benadryl instead.

4. Homemade Mamma Chia.

I’m trying not to drink soda anymore, hence the poor man’s flavored water theme. Just add a little bit of pom juice, a spoonful of chia seeds, and a few sprigs of mint. Done.

homemademammachia5. The Boston Strong BIC Band

Mal sent me the link to this BIC Band (currently my fav running headbands). The entire payment is donated to “The One Fund” to help those affected by last Monday’s events. Buy your own HERE.

Have a good weekend!

What’s something cool you’ve seen this week?

Friday’s Five

1. A Mamma Chia treat.

I say treat because this stuff is expensive for a little thing of juice. But it is SO good! I’ve tried all of the flavors now, and this is by far the best one.

mammachia2. New sandals for springtime.

Last week I used a gift certificate I had to purchase some new kicks from Piperlime. I was having a very hard time choosing between brown and black, and Tuna helped me chose the brown ones. Good choice.

3. I am officially an old lady.

On Wednesday night, at 1:15am, I made my first-ever noise complaint. Some hoodlums in my apartment complex were blasting music so loudly that I could hear the bass pumpin’ with my earplugs in. Shhhhhh, the old ladies are sleeping.

4. It’s strawberry season.

My overnight oats suddenly got much, much better.

strawberries5. Wearing play clothes to work.

I’m moving a bunch of boxes at work today so I insisted on wearing my Brooks for the day. I could get used to this. (The sports bra part, not the manual labor part.)

brooks3What are TWO things that stuck out to you this week?

Friday’s Five

1) Learning a new cooking lesson.

Make sure to check the ingredients you need before you start cooking/baking something. I realized after I started mixing everything that the applesauce for the applesauce bread I was making was moldy. Foul. #bakingfail

2) My brand-new crock-pot.

For my b-day last week, my dad gave me the crock-pot that Julie recommended. I can’t wait to start trying Pinterest recipes!

photo (2)

3) Figuring out the best post-gym dinner in the world.

An egg white omelet covered in cilantro and V8.  Please don’t judge my ugly omelet. I’m still learning.

photo (1)4) Discovering Bejeweled.

So I think I’m a little late in the game with this (pun intended), but I cannot stop playing. My mom showed me this app while I was in Durham and I played it almost the whole way home on the train! It’s almost as addictive as Instagram.

5) This article that reminded me why I [try] to eat clean.

I especially like the explanation the third guru gives.

What is ONE thing you loved/hated about this week?

Friday’s Five

1) An awesome birthday present from Tuna.

Can you figure out what this is? I had the hardest time – it took me a little while…

presentfromtuna2) Proclaiming that next week will be the official start of eating clean again.

No excuses.

fuel1.jpg3) Loving the cold spring weather while everyone else is hating it.

Yes, that probably sounds annoying, but my allergies are quite thrilled with this whole no pollen thing.

weatherpollen24) Realizing that I can make salad without lettuce.

Dinner last night: delish. I had to use up all my produce because I’m going out of town this weekend.

lettucelesssalad5) Packing for a weekend trip to visit my mom in Durham!

It’ll be my first train ride. 🙂

What are your weekend plans?

Are you doing anything special for Easter?

Friday’s Five

1.) Bangs.

I went a little cray cray and decided to get bangs yesterday! I think I like them, but I’m still getting used to it. It’s been awhile since the last time I had bangs…i.e. in the fourth grade.

bangs22.) Rest.

I took the week off from running and the gym. I’m loving the extra time to do stuff I normally wouldn’t have the time for during the week! Though I am starting to feel the itch to lace up my Brooks.

3.) Sipping on a refreshing Sparkling Ice.

Has anyone else tried these? I am OBSESSED with the grapefruit flavor. I know the sugar content probably isn’t that great, but it’s better than a glass of wine, right?

sparklingice1 4.) Indulging in a fast food treat.

You can’t keep me away from my chicken nuggets! No. Seriously, I get to have one McDonald’s meal after running a half marathon, okay?

mcdonalds25.) It’s March Madness time.

Not that I know anything about the teams/stats/etc, but it at least gives me some friendly competition with Tuna. The winner gets something TBD.

bracketWhat are you eating/drinking/loving right now?

Did you make a bracket for March Madness?

Friday’s Five

1. Hydrating like a mo’ fo’ this week.

I found a brand-new water bottle that my dad gave me for Christmas hiding in my car. Perfect size for inhaling ridiculous amount of H2O.

waterbottle2. An article from the newest edition of Runner’s World informed me that quidditch actually exists.

How am I just finding out about this now? This sure beats any rec kickball or softball team that I know of.

3. A killer mutant avocado with an orange pit.

I accidentally cut through the pit of this baby (and a big ol’ chunk of my finger) at lunch earlier this week. I left the half-pit in to keep it from rotting…and it turned bright orange. Apparently it has something to do with its tannin content/oxygen exposure, but it just looks pure evil to me.

avocadowtf14. A new(ish) bike for springtime.

My aunts lugged my mom’s barely used biked over to my apartment and I am very excited to use it after the half. I think I need a teensy break from running – or at least some new workouts to supplement it.

newbike5.  A belated birthday dinner for Tuna with his fam last night at Fogo de Chao in the city.

It reminded me of our time in Brazil! How I’ve missed you, pão de queijo.

Have anything fun or cool to share from this week? I want to know!

Friday’s Five

1. The exciting arrival of my very own business cards from zazzle.com.

businesscards32. Discovering the most amazing flavor of Yogi Tea ever.

This basically got me through the terrible cold I had for the majority of the week. So about all that running that was supposed to happen…

yogitea33. Snow day food.

Tomato soup with grilled cheese. Cozy and delicious.

2013-03-06 14.56.164. This week’s Biggest Loser was the makeover edition.

If you haven’t watched it already, you should! Also – love this quote from Jillian. I need to remember this during my long runs.

5. A minty green home manicure to start the weekend out right.

mintmanicureDoes anyone else think the length of the “week” and the “weekend” should swap permanently?

Friday’s Five

One of my favorite blogs, Carrie Bradshaw Lied, does a Friday feature called “Friday’s Five,” that shows pretty/funny/inspiring things from the past week or the week ahead.

I look forward to her hip Friday posts so much that I’m going to start doing my own Friday’s Five! #copycat

1.  Inspiration for Saturday’s long run.

2. Finding the “lost” BIC Bands in the pocket of your workout jacket.

13.1

3.  This hilarious gif of Jack Nicholson being just as creepy as usual.

4. Bubble baths and starting a new book club read.

The bubble bath did help my back a little bit! I took an extra rest day yesterday in hopes it would magically heal my teensy muscle strain.

5. It is finally March…

Which means 17 days until the Shamrock Half. The countdown has officially begun.

What are your Friday’s Five?
